Bio     Marvin Roy Kern, 70, of Climax Springs, MO, passed away March 6, 2015. He was born November 1, 1944, in Kansas City, KS, the eldest of two children of Marvin and Peggy (Hallquist) Kern. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969, and was awarded two Bronze Stars. Following honorable discharge, Marvin worked for General Motors Corporation for 25 years until retirement in 1994. He was a member of the UAW, American Legion and VFW. Along with his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his son, Officer Michael Kern (Traffic Unit Patrolman, Olathe PD) on January 20, 2015. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Kathy (Hedrick) Kern; grandchildren, Derek, Darci and Kyndall Kern; daughter-in-law, Denise Kern; sister and brother-in-law, Penny and John White; sisters-in-law, Karan Cross and Kristy Paddy and husband Mark; three nieces, two nephews and their families. A celebration of Marvin's life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
